Holiday on the Isle of Mull

The Isle of Mull off the west coast of Scotland is a popular holiday destination for people from across the world. Whilst some folk come for a day trip, many spend anything from a couple of days to several weeks enjoying island hospitality and exploring the wonderful scenery and wildlife of Mull and its neighbouring islands. Mull and Iona have a good range of accommodation from bed and breakfasts to self catering cottages to hotels. There are a number of excellent places to eat offering local produce and the local whiskey must be sampled. Most of the island has single track roads so do check out tips on the best way to drive on these roads before you go.

There are many places to explore on Mull and its surrounding islands and plenty of wildlife, including the magnificent sea eagles, to be seen. Most of the accommodation providers will help people decide what they wish to see and suggests wildlife trips that can be taken. For shorter breaks people often choose to stay in a bed and breakfast where they have the added benefit of their hosts’ local knowledge and experience. For those wanting the independence of self-catering information packs are often provided. There is also a Visit Scotland Tourist Information Centre in Craignure.

Most people come here by car and will need information about the ferries between Mull and the mainland as well as how to drive on single track roads (always use the passing spaces to allow approaching vehicles to pass and overtaking if the vehicle behind you would like to pass; and always stay to the left hand side even if that means stopping opposite a passing space). Should folk want to leave their cars behind it is possible, with some planning, to get around the island using public transport. For the more energetic visitors bicycles can be hired to explore the island.

Tobermory is a thriving village and is often referred to as the capital of Mull. There are many bed and breakfasts and other types of accommodation to choose from and plenty of choice for eating out. The village has an excellent arts centre called An Tobar and the Mull Theatre which attracts touring theatre companies as well as putting on their own productions. Tobermory also boasts a small but excellent museum which, along with the Ross of Mull Historical Centre based in Bunessan, offers useful information for people wanting to research their family history. There is the Tobermory Distillery and a range of different shops to visit also.

Flight Planning Importance and Benefits

Flight planning is very important for any flight a pilot will undertake as it creates a recipe for the safest flight on a particular day for the specific aircraft in question. Of course, circumstances are never the same and therefore the calculations for each flight must be tailored to the individual aircraft. Whether a private flight or a commercial one, thorough preparation is needed prior to take-off and there are many careful details to be mapped out. The major points to be considered in a flight plan are that of fuel, weather and route. These details must be worked out in the best way to enable the aircraft to take the safest yet fastest route available and also to conserve fuel. Fuel is the most important aspect of flight planning and favourable weather conditions can actually assist an aircraft in making its journey using the least amount of fuel. Wind direction plays a big part in fuel consumption as wind that pushes a craft from behind or front can help or hinder a pilot in making the journey with minimum fuel. With the wind behind it, an aircraft will burn less than it would flying into the wind. Another concern when preparing for a flight is fuel costs. As they are now higher than ever before, companies are looking for ways to attempt to save fuel where possible.

What are the Benefits?

An effective flight plan will keep fuel consumption as low as possible, ensure a safe and efficient flight, limit risks and at the same time minimise expenditure. By minimising the risks and maximising savings, flight planning software today is at its highest level of sophistication and no matter the size of the company, there are many potential money saving opportunities. Thanks to the developments of the internet and technology, pilots no longer have to calculate a flight using their hands! The introduction of quality planning software not only saves money and time, but most importantly, save lives.

Benefits include:

  • Saves airlines money.
  • The latest software limits risk.
  • Helps to keep fuel consumption low.
  • Shortens the flight time.
  • Helps to accurately pinpoint the amount of extra fuel needed.

The Most Comfortable Inflatable Travel Pillows

Next time you venture on a flight or go on a long journey then stop for a minute to consider your comfort. Even seasoned travelers that find it their passion will be the first to admit that it is no fun if you spend the hours in discomfort. If you are just taking a short trip during the day then comfort is not too much of an issue but savvy travelers will consider the fact that sleeping will be part of a longer journey.

If there is one travel accessory that makes sleeping on a journey far easier than it has to be an inflatable travel pillow. Imagine trying to sleep upright, it is difficult if not impossible. As your body relaxes for sleep, so does your neck muscles that support your head. Putting a pillow behind your neck does not help as it makes it harder for your head to not flop forward and with or without a pillow your head has the tendancy to fall from side to side, all of which wakes you up and leaves you tired at your journeys’ end.

There is not a vast choice of inflatable travel pillows available on the market which is surprizing when you think about the amount of people who embark on long journeys every day. Looking at the feedback and reviews that people have left on forums and e-commerce sites the pillow that has the most reviews and best ratings is the Skyrest travel pillow.

This handy travel pillow tackles the sleep challenge differently from other brands of pillows. Instead of trying to make sleeping upright more comfortable it applies a different concept. The pillow is inflated and placed onto the airplane tray or your lap. You then lean forward and rest your head so there is no fighting gravity – your head lays down, not upright.Other products on the market but you will find that all they offer is added support and cushioning for the upright position.

Another aspect of the Skyrest travel pillow is the ability to be able to pack it down into a very small and concise packet that fits tidily into your travel or flight bag. Using it is just as easy as well. When you feel like you need a sleep whether it is through tiredness or just boredom, all you do is get the pillow out of your bag and in a couple of minutes it is inflated ready for use. Let the air out when you are finished and it is easily folded away to its original small size ready for packing away again.

Budgeting for Gap Year Travel

Taking a gap year is a fantastic opportunity to explore the world and discover fascinating countries and cultures. While you can have fun deciding where you go and what you do, unfortunately you also have to do the less exciting task of working out how you’re going to afford it! Budgeting for your gap year properly can help you make the most of your trip. There’s nothing worse than running out of cash halfway through your gap year and having to make an embarrassing phone call home to your friends and family!

Below our some good tips on how to budget for a gap year abroad that will save you from stressing about cash flow:

Work out how much you’ll need

Sounds obvious, but if you already know some of the costs involved then you can add them up and work out a rough budget for your gap year. Start with the biggest expenses (usually flights) and work your way through everything else until you have an idea of what you’ll be spending day-to-day. Research the average cost of accommodation in each destination as well as rough prices for local food and attractions, including any ‘must-see’ activities – you won’t enjoy your gap year travel half as much if you miss out on all the best experiences! Of course, you can’t account for everything and there are certain to be unexpected costs, but at least if you have a target budget then you’ve got something to work to. If you’re halfway into your budget within the first week of your gap year then you know you’re going to have to start cutting back!

Spend wisely before you go

No one travels half way around the world without first buying some travel essentials. The trick is to limit yourself to exactly that: essentials. This will include visas and vaccinations, as well as travel insurance, which in itself can save you huge amounts of money if you get into trouble. Most other things are optional so make sure that if you buy something you’re going to use it and it will last further than the first bus journey! Buying a good quality backpack is a good start, but don’t go overboard buying travel kit. Spending too much before you go could blow your budget and anyway, it’s always best to travel light!

Get saving!
